Before I became a standup,
I worked as a journalist. Had fun with it. Did pretty well. Wrote for a lot of great newspapers, including the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Boston Herald, Miami Herald and the San Juan Star. I did some Humor columns for Mother Jones, too.
I always was attracted more to human interest and feature stories where I was allowed more range in style, and could focus on people that don't ordinarily get profiled in the news.
I won a first place short feature award, in fact, from the American Association of Sunday And Feature Editors, for just such a story, "Eulogy on San Justo Street," included below.
I also got to fly in an F-16.
I wanted to share some of my non standup writings with you.
